Total Hip Replacement Surgery

Total Hip Replacement (THR) is a surgical procedure in which a damaged or diseased hip joint is replaced with an artificial implant to restore mobility and relieve pain. This procedure is recommended for patients with severe hip pain, stiffness, and reduced function that significantly impact their daily activities. Minimally invasive techniques are often used to reduce recovery time, minimize scarring, and improve post-surgical outcomes.

Causes of Fractures and Trauma

  • Osteoarthritis – The most common cause, leading to joint cartilage breakdown and chronic pain.
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis – An autoimmune disorder causing inflammation and joint destruction.
  • Avascular Necrosis – Reduced blood supply to the hip bone, leading to bone death and joint collapse.
  • Hip Fractures – Severe fractures that do not heal properly, often due to osteoporosis or trauma.
  • Congenital Hip Disorders – Conditions like hip dysplasia or Perthes disease that cause joint deformities over time.
  • Post-Traumatic Arthritis – Joint damage caused by previous injuries, leading to pain and restricted movement.

Symptoms Indicating the Need for Hip Replacement

  • Chronic Hip Pain – Persistent pain that does not improve with rest, medications, or physiotherapy.
  • Stiffness & Limited Range of Motion – Difficulty bending, walking, or standing up from a seated position.
  • Pain Radiating to the Groin or Knee – Hip problems can cause discomfort extending to nearby areas.
  • Difficulty Walking – Limping, instability, or reliance on a cane/walker due to pain and weakness.
  • Joint Deformity – Changes in hip alignment or leg length differences due to joint damage.
  • Pain that Worsens at Night – Severe discomfort, even during rest or sleep.
