Knee Arthritis

Knee Arthritis is a condition that causes inflammation, pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility in the knee joint. It occurs when the cartilage that cushions the bones wears down, leading to friction, swelling, and discomfort. Over time, arthritis can severely impact daily activities like walking, climbing stairs, or even standing for long periods. Early diagnosis and treatment can help manage symptoms and slow down progression.

Causes of Knee Arthritis

  • Osteoarthritis (OA) – The most common cause, where the knee cartilage gradually wears away due to aging and wear-and-tear.
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) – An autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation and joint damage.
  • Post-Traumatic Arthritis – Arthritis that develops after knee injuries such as fractures, ligament tears, or meniscus damage.
  • Excess Weight & Obesity – Increased stress on knee joints accelerates cartilage degeneration.
  • Genetics – A family history of arthritis increases the risk of developing the condition.
  • Repeated Stress & Overuse – High-impact activities, frequent kneeling, or heavy lifting can contribute to joint wear and tear.

Symptoms of Knee Arthritis

  • Persistent Knee Pain – Aching or sharp pain that worsens with movement or prolonged activity.
  • Stiffness & Reduced Flexibility – Difficulty bending or straightening the knee, especially after sitting or resting.
  • Swelling & Inflammation – Visible swelling around the knee due to fluid buildup.
  • Grinding or Cracking Sounds – A sensation of bones rubbing together, also called crepitus.
  • Weakness & Instability – Feeling like the knee may "give out" while walking or standing.
  • Pain that Worsens with Weather Changes – Increased discomfort in cold or damp conditions.
